Marshfield, WI (OnFocus) When the Marawood County Line Riders 4-H saw that food pantry Soup or Socks was in need of donations, its members decided to step in to help.
Nine youth participated in a shopping outing and learned more about how to shop on a budget and what food really costs.
“It combined a community service and learning activity for them,” said Jessica Lewer, leader. “We had a budget to spend, then had to look at the prices of things. The kids decided which items they wanted to select to make the greatest impact with the budget we had.”
The group reached out to Soup or Socks to ask which items the pantry was most in need of, which was canned soup and mixes.
“The kids talked about their favorite type of soup and also discussed what soup could be used for,” said Lewer. Besides keeping warm on a cold day, soup can also be used in casseroles and other recipes to make a filling meal.
Soup or Socks is currently running low on pasta, of which it hands out 200 boxes each month. Any shape can be donated to 200 S. Lincoln Ave (by 1st Presybterian Church).
