MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – On Saturday June 25, Marshfield Area Habitat for Humanity broke ground for this year’s habitat house. This is the 20th house in the Marshfield Area and the 25th family the local group has helped. This year’s partner family is Ryan and Melissa Kusay and their three children.
“Ryan Kusay gave a lot to the community when he was wounded and became disabled in Afghanistan, the least we can do is help him build a house,” said Ed Korlesky, Building chair. “The home will be located at 309 North Juno Ave in Marshfield.”
Marshfield Area Habitat is a local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Founded in 1994, everyone involved with Marshfield Area Habitat are volunteers.
“We believe that all hardworking individuals and families should have a safe adequate and affordable place to live,” said Korlesky. “We look for partner families that have had a tough break in life or who have made some bad decisions and need a second chance.”
A common misconception of Habitat is that they give houses away. What they actually do is use volunteers to build houses for people in need, and then sell the partner family the house at a zero percent interest rate. Volunteers and donations are always needed and welcome.
“We hope to be building each Saturday in August and possibly into September depending on weather, so come join us,” said Korlesky. “A lot of people I talk to say that they don’t know anything about construction. We can still use you anyways. We are just like any other small business: in addition to people that want to help us build, we need marketing people, we need people that can help with fund raising, we have a volunteer board of directors that provides leadership. Lots of opportunities for people that want to give back to the local community.”
