MARSHFIELD – Mason Coffren singled to score Ryan Krueger in the bottom of the fifth inning for the game’s only run as the Marshfield baseball team beat Wausau West 1-0 on Thursday at Reeths Field.

Marshfield remains in first place in the Wisconsin Valley Conference with the two-game sweep of West this week, improving to 8-6 overall and 5-1 in conference play. West falls to 1-4 and 0-2 in the WVC.

Preston Wagner earned the win for the Tigers, scattering six hits in 6 2/3 innings, with Logan Schreiner earning the save by striking out the only batter he faced.

“Our defense did a great job we didn’t have a single error and threw out the only steal attempt,” Marshfield coach Jon Bauer said. “Mason came up big knocking in Ryan for the only run scored.”

Isaac Meverden had two of the Tigers’ four hits.

Marshfield is off until May 2 when it hosts Antigo.
