TOMAH – Marshfield put up a season-high 15 hits and plowed past Tomah 15-3 in a nonconference baseball game Friday.
Preston Wagner went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and Ben Gust had three hits and two RBIs for the Tigers.
Isaiah Baierl had a single and a home run, and Brant Bohman also had a pair of hits for the Tigers (1-4).
“We did a nice job running the bases and hitting the ball in RISP (runners in scoring position) situations,” Marshfield coach Jon Bauer said. “Our infield defense turned a few double plays to get out of jams early in this one. The guys have been working hard and it’s really nice to get that first ‘W’.”
Mason Coffren picked up the win. Despite walking six and allowing four hits, he gave up just three runs in five innings, all coming in the second inning.
Marshfield is scheduled to play Fort Atkinson and DeForest at DeForest on Saturday, before opening its Wisconsin Valley Conference slate with games at Stevens Point on Tuesday and at home against the Panthers on Thursday.
