MARSHFIELD – Will Voss threw a complete-game five-hitter and Marshfield put together two big innings to blow past Hudson 7-1 in a WIAA Division 1 baseball regional semifinal Tuesday at Jack Hackman Field.
Voss struck out two and walked two in the complete game for the Tigers, who improve to 15-12 and move on to a Division 1 regional final Thursday at Holmen (18-6).
Ryan Krueger smacked a lead-off home run in the first inning to give the Tigers a quick 1-0 lead.
Marshfield added three more runs in the third inning, using smart baserunning and a number of hard-hit balls to forge ahead 4-0.
Preston Wagner singled and stole second, Krueger followed with a single, and Brant Bohman lined a single to right to plate Wagner.
Bohman then stole second and both he and Krueger scored on a single to right by Mason Coffren, putting the Tigers in control.
Hudson scored its only run in the fourth before Marshfield responded with three more runs in the bottom of the inning.
Wagner reached on an error, Krueger walked, and after a groundout, Coffren smacked another two-RBI single to put the Tigers up 6-1. Coffren scored on an error to provide the final run of the game.
Voss threw three more shutout innings to finish off the victory and send the Tigers into the regional final.
