SPORTS DESK – Eli Drexler and Ryan Krueger led the charge for the Blue Devils on Sunday and stay alive in day two of the 2018 American Legion Baseball regional tournament.
After dropping the first game of the tournament on Saturday in a 5-2 loss against Wausau, the Blue Devils were sent to the losers bracket and one loss away from seeing their season end. It was a disappointing effort for Marshfield who have came down from their club record performance in June that included a 12 game win streak. Two wins during the record streak came against DC Everest with a 6-3 win in Schofield and an 11-1 pounding in Marshfield. It was again the same squad from Everest to be overcome to keep the season alive on Sunday afternoon.
After scoring one in the top of the first, the Blue Devils gave up two in the bottom of the inning and were 6 innings away from storing their bats until 2019. Then the bats woke up with a big three run third inning and another barrage of four runs in the sixth.
The eight runs would be all that starting pitcher Connor Jasurda would need. Jarusda held the Everest hitters to a meager two hits and two runs while fanning 10.
Marshfield stuffed the offensive stats up and down the batting order. Krueger and Drexler each went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Logan Matson, Ben Gust and Tragen Bogdonovich also went 2 for 4 with one RBI each.
The Marshfield Blue Devils will face the Wisconsin Rapids Rangers at 1pm on Monday. All games are played at Witter Field in Wisconsin Rapids.
