Marshfield Boys Falls to DCE in WVC Soccer Tilt
Report shared by Marshfield Head Coach Jeff Molter
Quite a difference from our last showing with DCE, we made some defensive changes and they seemed to pay dividends for us throughout the match. Anyone that knows DCE knows Hezekiah (Hezzy) one of the quickest kids I think I’ve seen in a while, neutralizing speed is not an easy task but our defensive line of Joey Ketterer, JJ Steinbach, Afton Hamil, Dirk Vanderwyst, and Tyler Kurtz seem to be very comfortable in denying any transitioning attack for the Evergreens. We managed a nice breakaway with Keegan early and what usually ends up as a goal for us, tonight was not the case DCE’s keeper Aissen came up with a great save, only to have Tony Koehn put in a goal a short time later off a nice assist from Dillon McHugh at the 34:04 mark.
Play was relatively even I feel we had attacks and so did the Evergreens, we gave up a couple of set pieces that proved to be our undoing, DCE got their 1st goal of a breakaway to tie it up and the game winner for them came off a set piece free kick that we just didn’t clear out efficiently. The last goal was us not making tight enough in the box, giving up a header of a corner to finish up the scoring for the night, ringing up a 3-1 loss for the Tiger squad.
All in all I’m happy with the results of our defensive shift, but not happy with the outcome of the match.
