WISCONSIN DELLS – The Marshfield boys golf team opened its 2019 season with a fifth-place finish at the Wisconsin Dells Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
Twelve teams took part in the two-day event, which featured nine holes on Friday at Trappers Turn Golf Club and 18 holes at Coldwater Canyon Golf Course at Chula Vista Resort on Saturday.
Marshfield finished with a 27-hole team total of 497. Middleton, behind a 38 and 64 from meet medalist Kip Sullivan, won the team title with a 433. Holmen and Waunakee tied for second at 460, and Mount Horeb was fourth with a 472.
Three Marshfield golfers played all 27 holes, with Nate Boson leading the way with a 124 (42-82). Ben Baur had a 128 (42-86) and Cole Hanson had a 140 (42-98) for two-day totals for the Tigers.
Josh Gruen had a 43 and Jeffery Berres had a 47 for the Tigers on Friday. Jackson Bulgrin had a team-best 79 on Saturday and Davis Rens added an 81 for Marshfield.
Marshfield is scheduled to play at the Wisconsin Rapids Quadrangular at Ridges Golf Course on Tuesday.
