Marshfield Boys Prevail over Hudson in Regional Final

Report shared by Marshfield Head Coach Jeff Molter
Well as per usual we gave up a goal early and had to play behind once again, and on our heels for a good portion of the opening minutes yesterday.
Andrew Ripp #7 from Holmen (great player) put Holmen on the board at the 2:43 mark. It wouldn’t be until the 30:48 mark till we got that back off the foot of Keegan Fredrick on an amazing assist from Dillon McHugh!
From there it was tense for the entire rest of the half, and got more tense for the second half. This game is a game of momentum and you just hope you have enough control of how far it swings because it will swing, it’s very rare if it doesn’t. Today was no different, we had chances as did Holmen, but neither were able to capitalize on the opportunities, much of ours was due to My man of the match Kai Rens!! Kai had flurry in front of our net were he save no less than 4 put backs at him and close range and came up huge with all the saves he needed to until that ball was cleared. From there we regrouped a bit and held pretty evenly till the latter minutes of the 1st 80.
Into over time #1, we had chances so did they but nothing spectacular by any stretch, #2 overtime would produce much of the same result with no one able to net the match winner, we head to kicks from the mark (no coach ever wants to end with this) where Holmen missed their first attempt to put us ahead right out of the gate, then Kai being Kai steps up and comes up with a monumental save to put us ahead by 2 which we eventually relinquished and ended up even in the first round of kicks. Off we go to the 2nd round of PKs. We went 1 for 1 all the way to Holmens 4 kickers where Kia (I can’t say enough about how well he played) come up with the biggest save of the season so far, to give us a lead of one. Afton Hamill comes up and burys one in the back of the net this should have ended the game, however the officials wern’t clear on the rules of PK’s in the playoffs and we had to take another kick where Mitchell Kutz ended it in the back of the net and then the mayhem ensued.
Holmen Keeper
Kale Barclay
6 saves
26 shots
4 corners
Marshfield Keeper
Kai Rens
12 saves
10 shots
1 corner
Another good day to be a tiger!! We play on Thursday at home and host Riverfalls, the #4 seed who took down the New Richmond Tigers in PK’s after a 0 0 draw on Saturday.
