Ordinary citizens were given an inside look at the everyday workings of their local law enforcement through the Marshfield Citizen’s Police Academy.

For seven weeks, the full class was able to complete a variety of activities and listen to officers discuss their role in the department firsthand. Participants were given an inside look at the job duties of ordinance, patrol, and K9 officers, plus SWAT team members, detectives, and auxiliary members.

During the course, they were taught how to stop a drug overdose with Narcan, dust fingerprints, shoot a firearm, solve a crime, complete an OWI arrest procedure, and perform a high-risk vehicle arrest. Tours of the police rescue vehicle and the police station were provided.

Through the use of police videos, officers also provided unique perspectives on high-stress situations they have handled.

After successful completion of the free course, citizens left with a greater knowledge of the decisions police officers make while endeavoring to protect their community.

Future opportunities to sign up for the Citizen’s Police Academy will be announced through the Marshfield Police Department Facebook page.
