Marshfield Clinic and Essentia Health Announce Merger Will Not Happen

MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – Last year, Marshfield Clinic and Essentia Health entered into an integration agreement to form a new integrated regional health system serving rural and mid-urban communities across four state

After recent weeks of discussions, Marshfield Clinic Health System (MCHS) and Essentia Health System Boards of Directors have decided to end talks about potentially merging their organizations.

Both teams worked to evaluate the feasibility and benefits of joining forces, but according to MCHS correspondence, it became clear that merging under one parent organization isn’t the best move for either health system right now.

Despite similarities, the challenge of combining two large, integrated systems with different histories and cultures was more complex than anticipated.

Now, both organizations plan to refocus on their independent strategic initiatives.
