OnFocus – At Tuesday’s Organizational Meeting of the Marshfield Common Council, new and re-elected members took the oath of office, members were appointed to committees, boards, and commissions, and the Council President was elected.

City Clerk Deb Hall administered the Oath of Office to the following members:

  • Nick Poeschel, 2nd District Alderperson
  • Brian Varsho, 4th District Alderperson
  • Tom Witzel, 6th District Alderperson
  • Rebecca Spiros, 8th District Alderperson
  • Peter O. Hendler, 10th District Alderperson

Poeschel, Witzel, Spiros, and Hendler had been re-elected, while Varsho was elected for the first time to the Council.

In the preliminary vote, the council was divided 5-5 between Alderman Buttke and Alderman Poeschel. After the second round of voting, the council was still split in half in terms of whom it wanted to make its next president. It was determined that a coin flip would decide the winner and Alderman Poeschel was elected Board President.
