WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Marshfield gymnastics team finished eighth out of 10 teams in the Division 1 team competition at the 2019 WIAA State Gymnastics Championships on Friday at Lincoln High School.
The Tigers finished with a score of 131.3167, slipping past Madison Memorial by 0.167 of a point for eighth. Franklin won the team title for the second year in a row with a score of 148.2833.
Gracie Holland topped the Tigers in the balance beam (9.0), uneven bars (9.25) and vault (9.267), and did not compete in the floor.
Emma Haugen led the floor routines for the Tigers with a score of 8.833. Brooke McGrath had a strong floor as well, finishing with an 8.55, as did Ally Nakke with an 8.2.
Hanna Merkel had a 7.683 and Haugen had a 7.4 on the balance beam, and Haugen scored 7.767 on the uneven bars and Merkel had a score of 7.75.
Behind Holland, the other four Marshfield competitors all scored above 8. Haugen had an 8.433, Sophie Nikolay scored an 8.35, McGrath charted an 8.267, and Kimberly Backaus had an 8.15.
Holland and Haugen will turn their attention to the individual championships on Saturday, which begin at 11:30 a.m. Holland will compete in the all-around and Haugen in the vault.
