MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – On January 30, 2024, at approximately 3:34 PM, the Marshfield Fire Department received a call regarding a fire at 2215 South Maple Ave Lot 497, owned by Antonia Ruacho. The fire prompted a swift response from the department.

Despite the challenges posed by the location, firefighters successfully evacuated all occupants from the home. They then initiated an aggressive interior fire attack, focusing on the room where the fire originated. A secondary line was used to address external flames, including a fire at the gas meter.

Within 20 minutes, the firefighters brought the blaze under control. However, extensive salvage and overhaul operations were necessary due to the significant damage sustained by the residence.

Although one minor injury was reported, all occupants were evaluated and no transports were required. Remarkably, no firefighter injuries were reported.

Despite the difficulties posed by the residence’s location in a non-fire hydrant area within a trailer park, relay pumping operations ensured an adequate water supply for firefighting efforts.

Heavy fire, heat and smoke damage was found throughout most of the home with the remaining areas unaffected directly by fire received extreme heat, smoke and water damages. The rear of the structure was completely consumed by fire causing fire to bum through floor areas restricting interior attack at the room of origin. Fire was contained to the building of origin. Due to the amount of damage and extent of damages throughout the residence it is considered a total loss.

UPDATE:

Area of origin was the back bedroom.

Cause was determined to be a Child with the inappropriate use of matches.
