Grocery Store Staff Applauded for Identifying Potential Issue
MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – On the morning of January 2, Marshfield Fire and Rescue was dispatched to the rear parking lot of Festival Foods for a possible natural gas leak. Upon arrival, responders met with the store director who stated there was a smell of natural gas near the loading docks, which is near the building’s gas meter.
MFRD personnel entered the building with metering equipment to ensure there was no natural gas within the building or within any of the semi-trailers attached to the loading docks. There were no measurable levels of natural gas found within the building or within any of the semi-trailers.
MFRD personnel also utilized metering equipment to inspect the building’s natural gas meter. A small natural gas leak was discovered originating from the building’s meter. We Energies was contacted and advised to send a technician to the Festival Foods location to further investigate and mitigate the natural gas leak. A WE Energies technician will be working to fix the natural gas leak. There is not a threat to the public.
“The management team at Festival Foods did a fantastic job of both identifying the possibility of a natural gas leak and reporting the issue via the 911 system,” said Deputy Chief Erik Jonas.
