Marshfield Fire & Rescue welcomed its newest recruit, Ryan Dunn, on January 7.
Dunn will be a firefighter/EMT for the department and also shortly a paramedic. His most recent position was three years at the Ashland Fire Department.
A Hartford, WI native, Dunn came to the area to work as a Machinist with OEM Fabricators and Strohwig Industries and volunteered for the Neillsville Fire Department.
“I really enjoyed the camaraderie and everything to do with it, and I decided to change careers and go into firefighting,” he said.
Dunn graduated from the Paramedic Program at Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College and attended Western Technical College for his Fire Protection Technician certification. After heading to Ashland for a few years, Dunn decided to return to Central Wisconsin.
“Marshfield was my number one pick,” he said. “I really wanted to come back to the area.”
After a two week training period, he will begin filling shifts. The first year of employment is seen as a probationary period for new recruits, but Dunn is in it for the long haul.
“I feel as long as everything goes good, I’ll retire out of this department,” he said.
