SHAWANO – The Marshfield girls soccer team dominated from the start, scoring three times in the first 10½ minutes and rolling to a 10-1 nonconference win over Shawano on Monday night at Shawano High School.
Nina Hashimoto had a hat trick and Kate Schilling scored twice for the Tigers, who opened up an 8-1 lead by halftime on their way to the big win.
“From the outset we totally overmatched Shawano,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “We scored eight goals in the first half and it gave the team an opportunity to play some other positions and just catch our breath as the season has been game after game, it seems, for some weeks.”
Courtney Meyer, Nicole Simon, Sophia Gruenling, Cassidy Kolstad and Ana Paape added goals for Marshfield, which improves to 9-7-2 this season.
Marshfield hosts Wausau West in its final regular-season and Wisconsin Valley Conference match Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Griese Park. The Tigers will open play in the WIAA playoffs with a Division 2 regional semifinal at home on May 28 against Antigo.
