Insurance can be confusing enough for adults, but what about kids?
Employees at Marshfield Insurance asked their children what insurance is all about for a short video, with humorous results. The five elementary-aged participants weren’t quite sure what insurance was, but they knew it could come in handy if lightning were to hit your bike, a hailstorm hit your ATV, or a lightning storm damaged your home. Also if something broke, insurance could help you fix it.
The video won a Judge’s Choice Award in the “Kidsxplain Insurance” contest. Held by Acuity Insurance, the contest invited anyone in the 50 states to submit an entry.
“We were curious to know if our kids knew exactly what we did,” said Nick Arnoldy, co-owner. “Back in the 80s when I was in school, I didn’t have a clue as to what [my dad] did.” Roger Arnoldy became sole owner of Marshfield Insurance in the late ‘80s, and today the business is helmed by his sons Nick and Ryan.
However, Arnoldy was pleasantly surprised by the results. “The majority of our sons and daughters did a good description for what we do,” he said. “I was a little prideful that they had the big picture down.”
For parents, the process of talking about insurance can start when their child is close to getting a driver’s license. Marshfield Insurance regularly visits high schools to give a talk about insurance and answer questions. As an independent insurance agency, its goal is to help adults navigate the different options.
“For anyone who comes to us, customer or not, our goal isn’t necessarily to provide them a sale, but provide them a overview of how the system works and how to protect themselves,” Arnoldy said.
