PLOVER – In a battle of undefeated Junior American Legion baseball rivals on Wednesday night at Memorial Park it was the Plover Black Sox that got the best of the Marshfield Blue Devils, sweeping a doubleheader 8-3 and 15-5.
Marshfield had its 11-game winning streak to start the season snapped as it falls to 11-2 overall and 5-2 in Wisconsin Valley Junior Legion League action. Plover is now 20-1 and 11-0 in league play.
In the opening game, Marshfield was held to five hits and Plover was able to score at least one run in five of its six at-bats.
Ky Swanson had two hits and an RBI, and Will Fetting and Kyler Bainer also drove in runs for the Blue Devils.
Marshfield scored five times in the top of the second inning of Game 2 to take a 5-1 lead.
Plover scored twice in the third, took the lead for good with a three-run fourth, and blew the game open with three more in the fifth and six runs in the sixth to end the game via the 10-run rule.
Logan Homolka had two hits and two RBIs, Nick Urban also had a pair of hits and an RBI, and Jaden Wilhelm and Trey Montalvo also drove in runs for the Blue Devils.
Marshfield plays another league doubleheader Thursday at home against D.C. Everest. The first game starts at 5:30 p.m. at Jack Hackman Field.
