Marshfield Man Charged with Carrying a Firearm on School Grounds

Marshfield, WI (WBJ) Marshfield Police apprehended a 66-year-old Marathon County man on Saturday afternoon after a situation unfolded near the intersection of Edison Street and Hinman Avenue.

Officers were initially dispatched at 12:21 pm to reports of a man exhibiting signs of mental distress. Upon arrival, the man, who authorities recognized from a recent stalking case, fled on foot through backyards. Officers reported seeing what appeared to be a firearm on the man’s hip.

The suspect, who lives outside Marshfield city limits, was known to have a restraining order barring him from a nearby residence. As additional Marshfield Police and Wood County deputies arrived at the scene, the man was spotted attempting to enter the victim’s home.

Officers issued commands for the man to surrender, but he again fled on foot. After a brief pursuit, the man was apprehended without further incident. A loaded .22 caliber revolver was recovered from his person.

The suspect was transported to Wood County Jail following medical evaluation at Marshfield Medical Center. The Wood County District Attorney’s Office will be petitioned to press charges for Stalking with a Dangerous Weapon, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Carrying a Firearm on School Grounds, and Resisting an Officer.
