Voters turned out in large numbers to show their support of gymnasts who competed at the Division 1 and 2 State Gymnastics Meets on Saturday, February 26. Nominated as a group of athletes, gymnasts from Marshfield and SPASH (Wisconsin Rapids); and Medford and Mosinee (La Crosse) caught the attention from OnFocus readers, collecting 206 votes to come away the title of Athletes of the Week!
Coming in second was the Medford Boys Basketball duo of Brady Hupf and Joey Sullivan, collecting 102 votes.

- Drew Guden, Edgar Boys Basketball – Guden has been big all season long in leading the Wildcats to a berth in the WIAA Boys Basketball State Tournament. The senior guard had 24 points in Edgar’s sectional semifinal win over Hurley on Thursday evening. Guden then was the glue that kept the Wildcats in their 74-60 sectional final win over Clear Lake. Guden nailed a three-pointer as time expired in the first half and Edgar punched their ticket to state.
- Emily Bohn / Jessie Grundhoffer / Ainara Sainz de Rozas, Assumption Girls Basketball – The Royals began the season 3-6 and then the trio took control to lead Assumption to the Division 5 State Title. They combined for 40 of Assumption’s 46 points in the state semifinal and then scored 44 of the Royals’ 55 points in the D5 State Title Game.
- Braden Trunkel, Neillsville Boys Basketball – Trunkel was a key player all season long for the Warriors, and he produced 14 points for Neillsville in their season-ending loss in the sectional semifinal to Saint Croix Central.
- Brady Hupf / Joey Sullivan, Medford Boys Basketball – The Raider duo had big games in Medford’s sectional semifinal loss to Rice Lake. Hupf had 15 points and Sullivan was big connecting on 3 big three-pointers for Medford.
- Medford/Marshfield/Mosinee/SPASH Gymnastics Athletes – The entire group of gymnasts from our area competing at the Division 1 and Division 2 State Gymnastics Meet deserve recognition. Area gymnasts persevered through challenging circumstances all season long, and overcame adversity to succeed at state.
