MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – A group of seniors from Marshfield High School’s Metal Tech program and their instructor Ben Will came up with a creative idea to help local animals.

They designed, built, marketed, and sold 95 custom dog bowl holders and donated $1,500 to Marshfield Area Pet Shelter.

“Every year my Senior Capstone Students participate in an entrepreneurship project,” explained Will. “Students brainstorm a marketable product, build prototypes, conduct market research, and determine cost and selling price. The students then advertise, take sales and complete orders for the customers.”

100% of the profits were donated. He added that through the class, students are learning to communicate with the customer, meet deadlines, and conduct quality control.

“This particular group of seniors chose to build custom dog dish holders and unanimously agreed to donate their profits to a great cause,” said Will. “Marshfield Metal Tech strives to develop a complete student that will graduate into a positive contributor of society. I want my students to know that they have real skills and they can do a lot of good in this world with those skills.”

“We appreciate their talent, hard work and thoughtful gift,” said MAPS Executive Director Karen Rau.
