Marshfield Middle School Girls Soccer Begin Season with Strong Start
In a total of just eight games – four a piece – these 7th and 8th grade soccer girls have outscored their opponents 25 – 8. Between the two teams, there have been a total of 17 different players involved with the goal scoring, as well as four different goalkeepers who have been part of shutout games.
At the top of the score charts for Marshfield’s A team is eight grader Greta Clopton with six goals, followed by Aubrey Engevold (8th) with five. Kaylee Fredrick (7th), Gideon Jones (7th), Alaina Johannessen (8th), Kallyn Trubee (7th), and Emma Hebbring (8th) have also all found the back of the net on one occasion, with Engevold, Clopton, Fredrick, Nola Christopher (8th), and Jones all contributing to the assist count as well. Highlights in scoring through these first four games for the A team have including hat tricks by Engevold and Clopton, an impressive three goals from corner kick opportunities, and one header goal by Fredrick. Rounding out the A team’s performances in goal have been eighth graders Deanna Stueland and Ava Schroeder, who have shared responsibilities in the Tigers’ shutout wins, and contributing to solid defensive efforts were eighth grader Paige Pernsteiner and seventh grader Jazzy Kurth.
On the B side, the scoring has been led by eighth grader Yensi Cerna with seven goals in four games, followed by eighth graders Emma Halle with five and Bhavya Mekala with four. Parker Franklin (7th), Kaidence Keding (7th), and Carly Schilling (8th) have also all netted one goal each. Leading in assists is Franklin with three, followed by Lilly Wells (8th) with two, and then Cerna, Halle, Keding, Alanah Gaier (8th), and Bristal Punke (7th) each contributing one assist as well. Scoring highlights for the B team include a five-goal game for Cerna in front of our home crowd and a direct score from a bobbled corner kick from Halle. Seventh grader Camille Whitrock has been a stand-out player on defense, with help from defenders Elizabeth Spencer (7th), Kaitlyn Glass (7th) and Clara Tompkins (8th). In goal, eighth graders Riley Melbinger and Shayla Fawley have split time and share the responsibility for the team’s one shutout game.
To date, the middle school kickers have faced opponents P.J. Jacobs, Medford, Merrill, and Wisconsin Rapids. They look forward to the second portion of their season, adding contests with John Muir, D.C. Everest, Waupaca (2), and a second round with P.J. Jacobs. The Tigers next home games are at Beell stadium on Thursday, May 2nd, at 4:00 and 5:15.
