Marshfield Middle School Girls Soccer Teams See Conclusion of Season

The Marshfield Middle School girls’ soccer teams saw their seasons come to an end on Thursday, May 16th. The A and B teams collectively went 12-6-2 overall during their Spring season, outscoring opponents 67-25, and nabbing 6 shutouts. Twenty-three different players contributed to the season’s stats, earning at least one goal, one assist, and/or one goalkeeping shutout.
Leading scorer from the B team was 8th grader Yensi Cerna, with 10 goals and one assist on the season. Following Cerna was 8th grader Emma Halle, with seven goals and two assists, while 8th grader Bhavya Mekala netted four goals and contributed one assist. Seventh grader Parker Franklin was the team’s leading assister, with three. She, 7th grader Kaidence Keding, and 8th graders Carly Schilling and Shayla Fawley also each scored one goal. Keding, Schilling, 8th grader Alanah Gaier, and 7th grader Bristal Punke all had one assist apiece as well, and 8th grader Lilly Wells ended the season with two assists. Fawley and 8th grader Riley Melbinger also shared one goalkeeping shutout on the season.
The second portion of the season proved to be tougher for the B teamers; however, highlights included a tie against a strong P.J. Jacobs team, a 3-1 win against D.C. Everest, and improved results in a second game with Waupaca.
Meanwhile, the girls’ A team averaged scoring upwards of four goals per game in the ten season games. A-team scoring was led by 8th grader Greta Clopton with an impressive thirteen goals and four assists on the season, followed by 8th grader Aubrey Engevold with eight goals and four assists, and Emma Hebbring with seven goals and two assists. Seventh grader Kaylee Fredrick led the way in assists, with a whopping ten assists in ten games, followed by another four coming from 8th grader Nola Christopher. Additional A-team goals and assists were credited to: Fredrick (two goals), 8th grader Paige Pernsteiner (two goals, two assists), 7th grader Gideon Jones (one goal, two assists), 8th graders Alaina Johannessen and Deanna Stueland (two goals each), 7th grader Kallyn Trubee (two goals), 7th grader Jazzy Kurth (one goal, one assist), and 8th graders Ava Schroeder and Emma Halle (one goal each). The A teamers’ 5 shutouts in goal were shared between 8th graders Riley Melbinger, Schroeder, and Stueland.
Second half of the season highlights for the A team included hat tricks by Clopton and Hebbring, as well as three goals scored from direct kick opportunities and one from a corner kick. The A team also only saw one loss on the season in their second game against P.J. Jacobs.
