Marshfield (OnFocus) – A monumental moment for Marshfield will take place at the site of Hefko Pool today – Wednesday, July 8, 2020 – to mark the start of construction for the $6-million outdoor aquatic center with a groundbreaking ceremony.
At the ground breaking ceremony, it was announced that the naming of the Aquatic Center would be in honor of Frank and Patricia Vandehey, Vandehey Waters.
The Parks and Recreation Department staff are organizing the event along with the aquatic center campaign committee members, dignitaries such as the mayor, city administrator and other community leaders. The event will begin at noon on July 8, on the Hefko Pool site with a small presentation and light refreshments.
“We’re grateful for this opportunity and thank all the donors who are supporting this project. We couldn’t be more pleased with the generous donors and the Council for providing their support,” said Justin Casperson, Parks and Recreation Director.
Bids for construction of the aquatic center are planned to begin on July 7, 2020, with a possible start later this year to begin the first phase of the project with plans of possibly opening the facility for the 2021 summer season.
According to Casperson, fundraising will continue through the project even though the $3-million goal was met but there is still options for naming rights for the pool. Donations can be submitted online.
The multi-million-dollar facility will have many amenities, including three slides, two diving boards, a climbing wall, basketball hoops, a full concession stand, family changing rooms, private changing stalls, and a reservable shelter.
