STEVENS POINT – Stevens Point scored four times in the first inning and put the game away with four more in the sixth, beating Marshfield 11-2 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference softball opener for both teams on Tuesday at Zenoff Park.
Rhiannon Corozolla had two hits, including a home run, and knocked in both runs for the Tigers (2-2 overall).
Taylor Barwick walked three and allowed four runs in the first inning to suffer the loss for Marshfield. Courtney Donahue struck out nine in 4 1/3 innings of relief, giving up the other seven runs.
Sam Saloun, Kayla Lass and Leah Earnest each had two RBIs for Stevens Point (2-0 overall).
Earnest earned the win, striking out seven in 5 1/3 innings.
Marshfield plays at Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday.
