New Online System Makes Booking Court Time Easy

Marshfield, WI (OnFocus) The weather may be getting colder, but tennis and racquetball players can still keep up their game with the indoor courts at the former City Hall Plaza.

Marshfield Tennis Association (MTA) took over management of the tennis and racquetball courts from the City and signed a lease with the building’s new owners in January. In August, the group debuted a new fob entry system and online registration, taking over the booking process from the Parks and Recreation department.

The courts are available from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day of the year and are accessible after becoming an MTA member. Once signed up, members are set up with their own online account and fob key.

“You can book five minutes before you want to play. It’s just that simple and easy,” said Ali Luedtke, MTA President. “If I’m sitting at lunch and I want someone to play with me in an hour, you can make that happen in a few clicks of a button.”

The City moved out of the building a year ago and assisted the group in taking over management. Keeping the courts available took on additional importance after the local YMCA decided against adding courts to its facility during the construction process, making the courts at the old City Hall the only indoor option for players.

“We have a very active group of people who use these facilities,” said Luedtke. Without the City Hall courts, the nearest options require a drive to Wausau or Stevens Point. “The fees and travel that’s needed to get there in the winter months is just not worth it to everyone who plays.”

Players interested in using the courts can start the membership process by downloading the membership form here (MTA Membership Form), or by stopping at the Parks and Recreation office at the 2nd Street Community Center. Checks can be made out and mailed to Marshfield Tennis Association, 1511 S. Schmidt Ave., Marshfield, WI 54449.

A tax-deductible single adult membership is $30, a junior membership is $20, and a family membership is $60. Memberships are valid until August 15. Tennis courts can be booked for $20 an hour and racquetball for $10 an hour.
