MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – On Tuesday, October 9, 2024, two Marshfield Utilities lineworkers joined a caravan of 22 Wisconsin Municipal Utilities crews departing from South Beloit, IL, to assist with power restoration efforts in Kissimmee, Florida, following the impact of Hurricane Milton. The crews are expected to arrive in central Florida by mid-day Thursday.
The Municipal Electric Utilities of Wisconsin (MEUW) coordinated the mutual aid effort, bringing together crews from Wisconsin and 16 other states, including Iowa, Michigan, and Minnesota. Organizers anticipate that mutual aid responders may be needed for up to two weeks.
Hurricane Milton is projected to affect some of Florida’s most densely populated public power communities. Mutual aid is a cornerstone of public power, embodying the spirit of neighbors helping neighbors, regardless of the distance.
MEUW will provide updates on the Wisconsin crews on their website and their Facebook page.
