Starting August 31, the Marshfield Utilities payment box inside City Hall Plaza will no longer be available. This comes in advance of the City’s upcoming move to the former Forward Financial building on 6th Street.
“The team there came to the conclusion that, as the new building would not have private offices, as does the current plaza, that there would not be the same kind of foot traffic in the building and so the need wouldn’t be the same,” said Ross Larson, Office Supervisor.
Fortunately, there are many different ways to make a payment at Marshfield Utilities. Customers can utilize the office from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. during the week at 2000 S. Central Avenue or the drive-up drop box available 24/7.
For their convenience, customers are encouraged to try the convenience of online, call, or auto payment options. “We have used local banks and grocery stores as payment locations in the past, and have found them all to good partners in service, but this option does not update the customer’s account in real time,” Larson said. “In fact, these payments can take days to post properly. This simply didn’t offer our customer the level of service they wanted or what we want to be able to provide to them. Technologies are changing, and we explore all good ideas.”
To avoid the need to drive to the office and to avoid the wait, there are a few other methods to pay. The call center is staffed from 7-7 p.m Monday through Friday, and 8-5 p.m. on weekends and holiday. Customers can also visit the website at MarshfieldUtilities.org for one-time payment options or to download the app directly. The app includes information on the user’s account, bills, payments, usage, and important updates and notices.
The most recommended option is the PowerPay® automatic bill payment option. “The customer will still receive their bill (or eBill) monthly, and all they need to do is review it and deduct the amount from their checking account,” said Larson. “The payment will be deducted automatically on the due date. Nothing could be easier and it is free!”
Forms for auto-payments can be found at the Marshfield Utilities website or at the office.
