SPORTSDESK – Monday night baseball at Jack Hackman Field featured American Legion Post 492 and the winners of six consecutive, the Post 54 Marshfield Blue Devils. Marshfield had started the season slowly to say the least, losing their first four games. The next four Blue Devil games were an offensive blood letting that saw four wins and a combined 48-23 scoring margin. Win number five in-a-row came against these same visitors from Everest with a 6-3 outcome.

Everest scored first with a Cody Duffrin RBI that scored first baseman Trevor Samuelson. Marshfield fired right back in the bottom of the inning with two runs of their own, RBI’s from Ryan Krueger and Mason Coffren.

The two run lead would be all Blue Devil starting pitcher Dakota Landphier would need. Landphier pitched 5 complete innings, giving up only five hits and striking out one. It was the Blue Devil offense that decided two runs wouldn’t be the end of their fun for the game. Marshfield scored once in the third and then blew apart the Everest defense in the fourth and fifth, scoring 8 more for a final score of 11-1.

Marshfield was led by second baseman, Logan Matson, who reached base in all four at bats and scored three times.

“It’s good to get going, we started slow and we wanted to get out of here and get a good win”, said Matson.

Next up for Marshfield is a home game on June 26th 7pm at Hackman Field. Then it’s a trip to Merrill on June 28th for a double header, first game starts at 5pm. You can see the Merrill doubleheader live on www.zaleskisportsshow.com
