Medford Lands Two Conf. Coach of the Year, Two Conf. Player of the Year Awards

Medford Raiders were recognized with two players of the year awards, and two coaches of the year awards as the Great Northern Conference released their spring awards.

Medford Baseball Coach Justin Hraby and Softball Coach Virgil Bernt were recognized as coach of the year in their sports. Raider baseball player Caleb Guden and softball player Martha Miller were both recognized as the player of the year.

Guden in conference play batted .476, with 2 home runs and 10 RBI. On the mound, he was just as dominant going 6-0 with an ERA of 1.27, walking 15 while striking out 47. Guden also opened the season with a no-hitter against Northland Pines.

Miller in conference play was dominant from the circle, going 11-0, with an ERA of 0.22, pitching 63.3 innings giving up only 2 earned runs, walking 11 while striking out 122. She also batted .333 with 18 walks to 4 strikeouts as the leadoff hitter for the Raiders.

Hraby led his team to a perfect 12-0 in the conference, 20-3 overall this season on their way to a second straight GNC conference title.

Bernt’s team won the first outright GNC title for Medford, going 12-0 in the conference, 18-2 overall.

Raider Baseball also landed five spots on the First Team All-Conference list, Guden at both pitcher and infield, infield being unanimous, outfielders Blaine Siedl and Nate Retterath, and utility player Spike Alexander.

Softball First Team honors for the Raiders including three unanimous selections Miller, Allie Paulson, and Allie Wesle, along with Larissa Klapatauskas.

Boys Tennis had two first-team selections, Ethan Swiantek at #3 singles and Brayden Balciar at #4 singles.
