MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – The Marshfield Police Department recently welcomed the addition of Officer Harley Jones, who officially began his duties on June 3. With a background rooted in public service and a fresh perspective on community policing, Officer Jones is looking forward to serving the Marshfield community.

Originally from Lake Mills, a small town near Madison, Wisconsin, Jones attended Lake Mills High School before pursuing higher education at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP), where he played football for five years. His path to law enforcement was solidified at Mid-State Technical College, where he attended the Police Academy.

“Law enforcement runs in my family,” said Jones. “My dad was a firefighter and EMT, my grandfather worked in juvenile corrections, and my sister and uncle both served in the military. Their dedication to public service inspired me to follow a similar path.”

Choosing the Marshfield Police Department was influenced by both personal and professional factors. “My girlfriend is from Hayward, and I’m from near Madison, so Marshfield was a perfect middle ground,” Jones explained. “Additionally, Chief [Jody] Geurink, who was one of my instructors at the academy, played a significant role in my decision. His values and the welcoming nature of the team here made Marshfield feel like the right fit.”

Reflecting on his career influences, Jones highlighted the importance of his family and academy instructors. “My instructors were incredibly knowledgeable and experienced. They have significantly shaped my approach to law enforcement,” he added.

Currently, Jones is in the training phase, working closely with a Field Training Officer. “I started on Monday and am gradually learning the ropes,” he said. “For now, I’m focused on absorbing as much information as possible to become the best law enforcement officer I can be.”

Jones is particularly interested in community engagement initiatives, such as the Citizens Academy. “Programs like the Citizens Academy help bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community,” he noted. “They provide valuable insights into our work and make people more comfortable interacting with us.”

Outside of his professional responsibilities, Jones enjoys various outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing, and golfing. “Now that I’ve retired from football, golf seemed like the next logical step,” he joked. He also spends quality time with his black lab, Benelli.

As for how the community can support the police department, Jones emphasized the importance of communication and collaboration.

“Community-based policing relies on mutual support. We encourage residents to reach out and report anything unusual. Working together is the best way to ensure a safe community.”

The Marshfield Police Department is excited to welcome Officer Harley Jones and looks forward to his contributions. The community is encouraged to extend a warm welcome and support him in his new role.

Welcome, Officer Jones!
