2nd Annual Bev Aschenbrenner Memorial Event Takes Place Saturday
Stratford resident Beverly “Bev” Aschenbrenner died on June 6, 2016, after an automobile accident on HWY 97, just four days before her 70th birthday and shortly after her 50th wedding anniversary. Two years later, her family is honoring her memory with a special event at Marshfield Motor Speedway.
Now in its second year, the Bev Aschenbrenner Memorial looks to provide the best racing action from some of the best local series’ around in one place: Marshfield Motor Speedway. The TUNDRA Super Late Models, TUNDRA Sportsmen, Midwest Truck Series and Upper Midwest Vintage Racing Series will all be in action Saturday afternoon.
Bev was very active in the Stratford and Marshfield communities, and in the racing community. In Stratford, she ran the little league baseball (Star Club) program for more 40 years, and was instrumental in the growth and success of the program, which is still being felt today. She was also a very active member with Zion Lutheran Church in Stratford.
“They (Bev and husband Bob) went to many races around the area and all of the country even,” said Brandon Aschenbrenner, Bev’s son. “They started going to races back when Stratford had a short track and have been involved ever since. They took pride in helping WCAR ( Women Concerned for Auto Racing) and always had encouraging words and an encouraging attitude for drivers and fans.”
Brandon is currently an announcer at three tracks in the area, including Marshfield, State Park (Wausau) and Golden Sands (Plover).
“The racing world is not the same without her,” said Brandon. “They especially miss her famous butterscotch cheesecake bars she would bring to the pits for the drivers on special nights.”
Brandon said the race is to honor Bev’s memory and keep her fresh in everyone’s minds and remember all that she did to help promote the sport they love.
