Monroe Runs Its Way to Division 3 State Title

The Monroe Cheesemakers won their # state title with a dominant 35-14 win over West Salem.

The Cheesemakers ran for 341 yards in the game behind a split attack of Tucker Markham, who ran for 170 yards and 4 touchdowns, and Alex Hernandez who ran for 122 yards.

Cheesemakers would get on the board first, midway through the first quarter on a Keatin Sweeny 10-yard touchdown run. They would run another one in behind Markham’s first, a 3-yard dive, and lead 14-0 at the end of the 1st.

West Salem would get on the board midway through the second with an 8-yard touchdown run from L. Noel cutting the Cheesemaker lead to 7.

But Monroe and Marham would go on a run after, scoring a 1-yard touchdown run with 3:11 left in the second. Then another in the 3rd on an 8-yard run, and another in the 4th on a 5-yard run.

West Salem would get one last score on a 13-yard touchdown pass from Brett McConkey to Andy Johnson cutting the lead to 35-14.

Monroe wins their 6th state title.
