Mosinee continued its winning ways with a shutout victory over the Antigo Red Robins, their fourth in a row. Antigo was coming off a narrow loss to Great Northern Conference leader Lakeland and had designs on tripping Mosinee up. However, a strong midfield tipped this game in Mosinee’s favor.

With Cole Holtz in the midfield, Mosinee has been able to control their games. His possession skills, astute defense, and deft passing have set up Mosinee for success. Mosinee has had an outstanding season, with only one loss when Cole is on the pitch. Helping him is defensive midfielder Garret Donohue, with Thomas Miller and Ondrej Napravnik running the outside. That combination led to a clear advantage in possession throughout the evening.

Mosinee’s strong midfield and possession game opened the door for Toren Holtz to capitalize. At 12” Napravnik gave Toren a terrific back pass and Toren tucked the ball near the far post. Mosinee kept the pressure up, rarely allowing for Antigo to get a serious threat. Eventually possession was lost by Antigo in their penalty area and Jaeger Dhein was there to put the ball in the back of the net. Ondrej Napravnik later dribbled the ball into the penalty area and made another pass, but this time it was hand-balled by the Antigo defense. Toren stepped up and buried the penalty kick. That finished the first half scoring, Mosinee 3, Antigo 0.

In the second half, Mosinee took the ball right back to the Antigo end, and a beautiful combination play with Cole Holtz and Toren Holtz led to Toren getting his hat trick, and making the score Mosinee 4, Antigo 0 at 50”. Mosinee consistently pressured the goal, but to Antigo’s credit, they didn’t allow any more scores. The final score was Mosinee 4, Antigo 0.

Mosinee is now 5-2 in the Great Northern Conference and remains in second place. Mosinee has a significant week next week with Medford coming for a game on Tuesday and a trip to Rhinelander on the docket for Thursday.
