Mosinee Boys Basketball Nipped by Northland Pines

The Mosinee Boys Basketball team took the two-hour bus trip up to Eagle River to play Northland Pines.  Mosinee would come out right away by winning the tip and Keagen Jirschele would deliver a dime to Davin Stoffel for an alley-oop dunk to put Mosinee up 2-0.  Jirschele would follow that up with a pull-up from 15 feet.  Mosinee up 4-0.  Keagen was able to create a steal and he would finish with a layup.   Mosinee is down 6-8.  Davin Stoffel got fouled and he would knock down 2 free throws for a score of 10-12.  Davin Stoffel would get a steal and lead the fastbreak with an assist to Blake Nichols for a layup. Mosinee 10 to Pines 12.  Jirschele got another steal and went coast to coast for a layup from the left side.  Mosinee ties the game at 12 apiece.  Nichols got down on the post and created a tough spin move to put Mosinee within one at 14-15.  Garrett Shupe then hit a three from the wing to get the score to 17-18.  Davin Stoffel would get fouled and finish the and one.  Mosinee is down 20-23.

Stoffel followed that with another clean look at the bucket to get within one of the lead.  Seconds later Stoffel stole the ball and finished for two.  Mosinee is up 24-23.  With Mosinee in the bonus, Stoffel would get fouled and hit both of the free throws to keep Mosinee up 26-25.  Aidan Shaughnessy would attack the rim while going left and he knocked down the 15-foot jumper to put the score at 28-27.  This would be the last time the boys would score during the first half.  Mosinee heads to the locker room down one 28-29 to Northland Pines.

 

Out of the half, Mosinee would miss the first four shots taken until Garrett Shupe would get open with a backdoor cut and finish at the rim for two.  Mosinee 30 to Pines 32.  Blake Nichols was able to tie up the score at 32 with a layup.  Keagen Jirschele fired up the boys with a corner three and put Mosinee up 35-34.  Shupe would get a dish from Landen Thomer for a three in the corner to give Mosinee a 38-34 lead.  Jirschele was able to knock down another two for a 40-34 Mosinee lead.  Davin Stoffel got in on the action for a bucket near the rim for two to put Mosinee up 42-34.  Landen Thomer finished under the basket for two to put Mosinee up 44-37.  Davin Stoffel got fouled and he would hit 1 or 2 from the line.  45-37.  Aidan Shaughnessy hit a deep corner three to put Mosinee up 11 at 48-37.  Davin Stoffel spins and finishes in traffic to put Mosinee up 50-40.  Stoffel would get a bucket to put a stop to Pine’s comeback for a score of 52-48.  Shaughnessy was able to attack the baseline and hit a floater to keep Mosinee up 54-50.  With Mosinee down four, Jirschele was able to attack the rim and get his own miss for a layup to put Mosinee at 56-58.  Davin Stoffel would end Mosinee’s scoring with a battle for a layup to get the score to 58-59.  This would be the end of regulation as Mosinee would lose tonight in a hard-fought game.  Mosinee will play their next game at Eau Claire Memorial on Monday, February 13th.

 

Mosinee was led tonight in scoring by Davin Stoffel with 22 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block.  Keagen Jirschele added 13 while hitting one 3, 4 rebounds,4 steals, and 1 assist.  Garrett Shupe added 8 points while hitting two 3’s, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist.  Aidan Shaughnessy with 7 while hitting one 3, and 3 rebounds.  Blake Nichols with 6 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 assist.  Landen Thomer with 2 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block.
