Mosinee vs. Xavier   Won:  72-65

What an exciting game for fans to watch as the Mosinee boy’s basketball team took on #3 ranked Xavier in Mosinee tonight.  The gym was packed and you could feel the excitement in the air.  Xavier would come out early in the game and showed why they are the #3 ranked team in the state at Division 3.  They went out on a quick 9-2 run to put Mosinee on their heels.  Even after a timeout, Xavier would continue to knock down shots and play tough defense to push the lead to 16 points.  Mosinee had to take their second timeout after being down 16-32.  Out of the timeout they would make some defensive adjustments and come out with a 13-0 run of their own.  Going into half Mosinee would be down 29-32.  Mosinee was led at half by Landen Thomer with 10 points, Aidan Shaughnessy with 8 points, Keagen Jirschele with 7 points, and Cole Kowalski with 4 points.

Coming out of the half, Xavier once again pushed the lead to 8 points.  After a timeout, Mosinee would get to shoot two free throws and get possession of the ball after a technical for Xavier having too many players on the court.  Mosinee would make it a quick four-point swing.  That momentum played big into Mosinee taking the lead with four minutes left in the game.  Mosinee would take their time during each possession and they would run some clock off.  This forced Xavier to stretch their defense and allowed Mosinee to get an easy layup.  Every offensive possession that Mosinee had at the end would end up in Xavier fouling and Mosinee making free throws down the stretch.  This game would come down to the last seconds in which Mosinee would prevail with a 72-65 victory against an extremely good Xavier team.  This win put Mosinee’s overall record to 19-3 and 9-1 in conference.

Mosinee was led tonight by Keagen Jirschele with 21 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 assists while going 5 for 9 at the free-throw line.  Landen Thomer added another double-double with 18 points, 18 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 blocks, and 2 steals while going 2 for 2 at the line.  Cole Kowalski added 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists while hitting one 3 and going 2 for 2 at the free throw line.  Aidan Shaughnessy added 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 block while hitting two 3’s.  Treve Stoffel rounded out the scoring tonight with 8 second-half points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 block while going 2 for 3 at the line tonight.
