Mosinee Boys Race Past Merrill in WIAA Boys Regional Semifinal

Mosinee vs. Merrill: Won 79-47

The Mosinee Boys Basketball team played their first playoff game against Merrill in Mosinee. The game provided a great atmosphere for the fans and players. The game started off with a corner three by Garrett Shupe to put Mosinee up 3-0. Blake Nichols hit a three from the wing to put Mosinee up 6-2. Landen Thomer kept the scoring going with a bucket near the rim for two more. Mosinee is up 8-2. Thomer would follow that bucket with another from a nice dish by Nichols to put the score at 10-4. Keagan Jirschele was fouled and he was able to hit 1-2 from the line. Mosinee 11 and Merrill 4. Landen Thomer for two more to put Mosinee up 13-7. Jirschele would hit a deep three from the left side wing. Mosinee 16 to Merrill 7. Blake Nichols was able to get to the rim with some crafty moves. 18-7 Mosinee. Davin Stoffel was able to hit the next two shots to give Mosinee a 22-7 lead. Mosinee was able to go up 24-10 with a Stoffel pass to Blake Nichols for a layup. Stoffel got a tough two with a power post move. Mosinee 26 to Merrill 10. Seconds later, Nichols would get a transition pass from Stoffel for another layup. Mosinee up 28-10. Davin Stoffel was feeling his shot tonight with a deep three to give Mosinee a 31-13 lead. Treve Stoffel couldn’t be outmatched by his older brother, so he got into the scoring column with a corner three of his own. Mosinee up 34-13. Thomer would get a dime from Davin Stoffel for another layup. Mosinee up 36-17. Keagen Jirschele was able to hit the next two shots and one with no time on the clock to put Mosinee up 40-17 at half.

Mosinee would get a couple of free throws from Nichols to put them up 42-22. Blake Nichols was able to hit a midrange for two. Mosinee is now up 46-22. Davin Stoffel would pin his defender and get a tough post move to put the score at 50-22. David Haskins was able to leak out on a fastbreak to get an easy layup. Mosinee 52 to Merrill 22. Aidan Shaughnessy found his range with a deep corner three to put Mosinee up 55-22. Nichols was fouled and he would hit both free throws to get the score to 57-22. Treve Stoffel was able to attack the rim with a lefty finish. Mosinee up 59-26. Shupe would get open in the corner for a three. Mosinee’s lead is now 61-32. Davin Stoffel was fouled on a post attempt. He would connect on 1 of 2 free throws. Mosinee up 62-32. Garrett Shupe would get fouled on a layup attempt. He was able to hit 1 of 2 free throws to get the lead to 63-32. David Haskins decided to get in on the three-point action with a three of his own. He pushed the lead to 66-33. Keagan Jirschele continued the pressure and he would find a way to drive to the rim and finish. Mosinee up 68-35. Shaughnessy was fouled and he would connect on 1 of 2 from the line. Senior Ben Peterson knocked down a three from the wing. He would push the lead to 72-37 Mosinee. Another senior, Noah Stencil, would hit from three. Mosinee is now up 75-39. Senior Rusty Johnson with a post-up bucket of his own to push the lead to 77-47. Taylor Lemanski would put the finishing touch on the scoring for Mosinee by hitting 1 of 2 from the free throw line to get the final score to 78-47 Mosinee. Mosinee will head to Shawano tomorrow for a regional final game at 7:00 pm.

Mosinee was led in scoring by Davin Stoffel with 16 points while hitting one 3, grabbing 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 blocks, and 2 steals. Blake Nichols with 13 points while hitting one 3, going 4 for 4 from the free throw line, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals. Keagan Jirschele scored 10 points while hitting one 3, dishing out 10 assists, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Landen Thomer would also provide 10 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 assist, and 1 steal. Garrett Shupe would add 7 points while hitting two 3’s, grabbing 8 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 steal, and 1 assist. David Haskin added 5 points while hitting one 3 and grabbing 1 rebound. Treve Stoffel added 5 points while hitting one 3 and dishing out 2 assists. Aidan Shaughnessy added 4 points while hitting one 3, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists. Ben Peterson added 3 points while hitting one 3. Noah Stencil also added 3 points while hitting one 3 and grabbing 1 rebound. Rusty Johnson added 2 points and 1 rebound. Taylor Lemanski would round out the scoring with 1 point.
