Mosinee vs. DCE:  Won 67-60

The Mosinee Boys Basketball team took it to the court against DCE.  Mosinee would get on the board early with a Keagen Jirschele layup to put Mosinee up 2-0.  Garrett Shupe hit a corner three to give Mosinee the 5-0 lead.  Quickly after that Davin Stoffel would get a layin off an assist from Landen Thomer to put the lead to 7-2 Mosinee.  Landen Thomer then hit a three from the corner to put Mosinee up 10-9.  Stoffel would return the favor with an assist for an easy layup for Thomer.  Mosinee 12 to DCE 9.  Shupe would get the dish from Thomer for a three in the far corner to put Mosinee up 15-11.  Shupe hit his third three of the half from a pass by Stoffel to put Mosinee within one of DCE at 18-19.

Jirschele then would weave through players to get a left-handed layup.  Mosinee 20 and DCE 21.  Ben Peterson took advantage of his opportunity tonight to provide a huge spark for Mosinee with a layup from a pass directed by David Haskins.  Peterson would follow that play with a swish from the right corner for a three.  Mosinee ties the game with DCE at 25 apiece.  Blake Nichols provided a spark for the team as well by knocking down two consecutive threes to give Mosinee a 31-30 lead.  Keagen Jirschele was able to attack the middle of the court and he would pull up for a 12-foot bank shot.  Mosinee was within one 33-34 of DCE.  This would be the halftime score.

Out of the half, Mosinee would turn up its defense and get a few stops.  Keagen Jirschele was able to cut and knock down a nice floater for two.  Mosinee up 35-34.  Davin Stoffel would get a clean look from the corner and he would knock down a deep three.  Mosinee is now up 38-34.  Garrett Shupe decided to follow Davin with a three of his own.  Mosinee is now up 41-34.  DCE then went on a little run and took the lead until Davin Stoffel would get an and one to put Mosinee up 44-43.  Landen Thomer was able to hit his second three to put Mosinee up 47-45.  Nichols was able to find a cutting Jirschele for a layup.  Mosinee up 49-48.  The very next possession, Blake Nichols would find his way to the rim with a layup and finish with his left for a 51-48 lead.  DCE would tie up the game until Garrett Shupe found a way to knock down his fifth three of the night to put Mosinee up 54-48.  Mosinee then found themselves at the foul line where Keagen Jirschele would hit six consecutive free throws along with a bucket to put Mosinee up 62-56.  Blake Nichols would also get fouled and hit 1-2 from the line to put Mosinee up 63-58.  Keagen Jirschele got the opportunity to put the icing on the cake with two more free throws and he capitalized.  Mosinee goes up 65-60.    The final bucket of the game was off of a press break dunk by Davin Stoffel to put Mosinee up 67-60.

 

With this win, Mosinee’s record for the season is 14-4.  Mosinee will play a home game on Thursday against Rhinelander at 7:15 for senior night.  Mosinee was led in scoring by Keagen Jirschele with 20 points while hitting 8 clutch free throws, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals.  Garrett Shupe with 15 points while hitting five 3’s, 6 rebounds, 1 block, and 1 assist.  Davin Stoffel added 10 points, 4 assists, and 1 block.   Blake Nichols would add 9 points while hitting two 3’s, 3 assists, and 3 rebounds.  Landen Thomer would add 8 points while hitting two 3’s, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists.  To round out the scoring for Mosinee was Ben Peterson who added 5 quality points.
