Mosinee’s Seniors take down Antigo, 8-0

Mosinee featured its seniors in the starting line up in a boys soccer game against Antigo. The upperclassmen did all that was needed and then some to win the Great Northern Conference tilt.

Mosinee took the opening kick and moved right down into the Antigo penalty area. After moving the ball around the 18 yard line, seniors Garret Donohue passed to Noah Stencil for the score, just 49 seconds into the game. Mosinee kept the pressure up, moving the ball back to their defense of Colton Blank, Grant Gabrielski, Jake Neumann and goalie Keaton Wieloch. The defense made sure Antigo had little opportunity all night. The senior connection kept working in the 10th minute when Jake found Carter Daul on a breakaway. The scorekeeper was quiet for a little while until some of the underclassmen got in on the action, with Cole Kowalski scoring at 32”, assisted by Garret. Jaeger Dhein then let himself be known by scoring unassisted at 33”, and a final tally just 3 seconds before halftime off an assist by Carter. The halftime score was Mosinee 5, Antigo 0

The first minutes of the second half were quiet. Mosinee clearly had possession, but the Antigo defense held the line. Finally, senior Greyde Rodgers got a goal off a deflection from the Antigo goalie at 54”. The momentum from that goal led to a second goal for Cole Kowalski, assisted by Garret at 56”, and then a final goal for Mosinee at 59” from Jaeger Dhein, assisted by Jake Neumann. The game was called by goal-difference, 8-0, at 60”.

Mosinee evened their Great Northern Conference record at 3-3-1 with the win. Mosinee will head to Medford for their next game on Tuesday, October 4.
