CLARK COUNTY, WI (OnFocus) – After an incident took the life of a Clark County highway worker on August 8, the Clark County Sheriff’s Department is releasing the names of those involved in the accident.
The Clark County Highway Department worker that was killed was Russell J. Opelt, 57. The other Highway worker that was injured was David L. Murphy, 60.
Initial investigation indicates that at about 12:00 a.m., the two Clark County highway workers were sent to a tree that was across CTH G by Mann Road. They arrived there at about 1 a.m. and started to remove the tree. At about 1:18 a.m., one of the workers called 911 and said that a vehicle struck him. When deputies arrived on scene, they discovered that a vehicle was traveling south on CTH G and struck the workers and tree.
The Operator of the vehicle, Cory Neumueller, 28, is still in the Clark County Jail awaiting his initial appearance. Neumueller is being charged with Causing Injury and Homicide by Intoxicated use of a vehicle. Speed and vehicle operator impairment appear to be factors in the accident.
