Nekoosa and Mauston Tie in Season Opener
Nekoosa Soccer traveled to Mauston and tied with Mauston at 1, giving both teams their first point in conference play.
Jarett Wilcox had numerous opportunities in front of the net before he banged one home to give the Papermakers their first goal of the season. Assisted by Carter Jensen. A combination the Papermakers hope to see more of in their transition offense.
Keeper Jerry Carlson worked his normal magic after the Papermaker defense gave conceded a penalty kick and kept Nekoosa level late into the second half.
Mauston was down one, and had nothing to lose when they turned up the pressure late leveling the game at 1-1.
Both teams walked away last night ruing missed opportunities thinking they should have won.
It is tough in one week for me to put together all the tactics we are going to employ in a season and expect the kids to execute. I will say I feel like we should have won. I would love to see the things I need to fix in a non conference or scrimmage situation first, but this is how it played out. We didn’t did an early conference hole, even if we aren’t where we wanted. The fixes are easy, and coachable. I expect more out of this team this season, and I know they will give it to me.
