Voting for the area’s top athlete was close, with Sawyer Ostrum of Nekoosa/Assumption/Port Edwards Boys Wrestling collecting 537 votes and earning the title of OnFocus Athlete of the Week, January 14 – January 20.
Swayne Stencil of Marathon Boys Wrestling picked up an impressive 524 votes and earned second place.
Third place went to Mosinee Boys Basketball’s Keagen Jirschele with 173 votes. Fourth place was earned by TJ Lamb of Almond-Bancroft Boy’s Basketball with 111 votes.
OnFocus Athlete of the Week, January 14 – January 20
- Savannah Danielson, Wausau West Girls Wrestling – Danielson took first place at the WI Challenge Series for the Warriors, earning three first period pins and then major decisions in her final two matches.
- TJ Lamb, Almond-Bancroft Boys Basketball – Lamb topped the 1,000 point mark with a 24 point performance in the Eagles’ 75-22 crushing of Wild Rose.
- Keagen Jirschele, Mosinee Boys Basketball – Jirschele reached the 1,000 point plateau in Mosinee’s big 61-58 clipping of Marathon in a battle of highly ranked teams.
- Swayne Stencil, Marathon Boys Wrestling(nominated online) – Stencil took first at 132 pounds for the Raiders, at the Wausau East Lumberjack Invitational Challenge. Stencil opened with a pin before earning three hard-fought decisions of 3-2, 7-4 and 4-2. Teammate Blake Underwood joined Stencil with a first place finish, earning three first period pins.
- Sawyer Ostrum, Nekoosa/Assumption/Port Edwards Boys Wrestling – Ostrum took the title at 126 pounds at the Bark Memorial Invite, earning a pair of pins enroute to the championship.
