Update 9:10: Press Release from Nekoosa School District

The Nekoosa Public Schools are closed to all staff and students today, Friday, December 6, 2019, as a result of an anonymous threat that was posted on social media last night.

The District was notified Thursday night that an anonymous statement was posted to social media, which caused concern enough for a student and parent to contact Nekoosa Public Schools. School officials and Nekoosa Police Department will continue working to uncover the origin of the post. The threat was non-specific.

As a precaution, at 6:30 a.m. Friday morning the District and law enforcement cooperatively made the decision to cancel school for all grade levels and notified staff and parents about this incident.

This is an ongoing investigation. Updates will be provided when possible, and throughout the weekend if necessary. School will resume on Monday.

Update:

The Wisconsin Rapids School District released a statement that it believed there is no threat to the safety of staff or students and that law enforcement has a strong presence in its buildings, which will continue throughout the day. In consulting with the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department, the threat involving Nekoosa schools does not relate to Wisconsin Rapids schools.
