Prairie du Chien (OnFocus) – The Nekoosa Papermakers raced out to an early 14-0 lead in their Level 2 matchup with Prairie du Chien only to fall behind 28-14 early in the 3rd quarter. The Papermakers’ suffocating defense and powerful running game then took center stage, as Nekoosa went on a 26-0 run to claim a 40-28 season-ending win.

Corder Ysquierdo got things started for Nekoosa with a 71 yard run. A Jonathan Wenzel 9 yard run made the lead 14-0.

Things quickly turned south for Nekoosa, however.

PDC scored on a 80 yard touchdown pass to bring the home team to within a score at 14-7 after one quarter. The second quarter was all PDC, scoring on touchdown throws of 10 and 28 yards to take a 21-14 halftime lead.

Nekoosa’s spirits took a dive to start the second half, falling behind 28-14 after a PDC 13 yard scoring strike.

The Papermakers then took over, and in dominating fashion.

Hunter Lochner’s 8 yard touchdown closed the gap to 28-20 after three quarters.

The fourth quarter saw Nekoosa produce three touchdowns. Quarterback Ethan Hoogesteger scored on runs of 8 and 1 yards, sandwiched around a Ysquierdo 44 yard jaunt.

Nekoosa piled up 437 rushing yards, with Ysquierdo rushing 25 times for 268 yards.

Lochner led Nekoosa with 10 tackles.
