Nelson-Jameson of Marshfield is moving forward in its plans to purchase the Figi’s building from owner Mason Companies, Inc.

The company has been looking for a permanent office space to accommodate a surge in staffing. Nelson-Jameson found a temporary solution by renting space in the new Forward Financial building, which celebrated its grand opening last April.

Nelson-Jameson offered to buy the old City Hall building at 630 S. Central Avenue. At its January 8 closed session meeting, Common Council voted to counter-offer for $1 million cash with no contingencies and increase earnest money from $5,000 to $50,000.

The proposal ultimately fell through, the City confirmed in a press conference Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Mason Companies and Nelson-Jameson discussed a purchase agreement for the Figi’s real estate. Figi’s first announced closing procedures in January, affecting a total of 276 employees and providing an unexpected vacancy in office space.

This is a developing story.
