New Book “Wear a Hat: The Concussion Recovery Lifestyle” Offers Unique Healing Advice from a Doctor Who Suffered from Concussions Himself
Firsthand knowledge and research provide tangible methods to overcome the long-lasting effects of brain trauma
SAN RAFAEL, Calif.—March 13, 2024—Jonathan Smith, D.C., today announced the release of his new book, Wear a Hat: The Concussion Recovery Lifestyle. The book is a guide to concussion syndrome recovery, driven by Dr. Smith’s own experience healing himself from multiple concussions. In particular, the book offers a methodology based on the reality that most concussion symptoms arise from brain inflammation, medically known as neuroinflammation.
The book provides answers and practical strategies for all who suffer from mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) and the people who support them. It is written in a read what you need format for ease of use by concussion sufferers. Post-concussion syndrome survivors will finally find a comprehensive resource that can put them on the road to recovery.
Dr. Smith’s online concussion consultancy is called True Brain Concussion Center. The doctor blends health coaching and functional medicine to facilitate post-concussion syndrome recovery. The same approach can be found in his book, where he points out, “Physically and emotionally, the greatest obstacle is at the very beginning. The idea that concussion symptoms will simply go away is simply not true. The ‘rest and return’ paradigm is not helpful for most concussion patients.”
Dr. Smith started as a general chiropractor specializing in cranial therapies treating headaches and temporomandibular joints (TMJ) issues. Three years into his practice, he had two mild concussions within four months of each other and began his journey with Post-Concussion Syndrome. Over the following 12 years he was rear ended two more times, and struck by a van while walking, perpetuating symptoms. Traditional and alternative health care treatments costing tens of thousands of dollars did not prove helpful.
Based on this experience, Dr. Smith pioneered what he views as the ideal treatment for concussion. This involves improving the lives of patients through lifestyle change and a holistic, multi-disciplinary concussion treatment model.
His approach is timely. According to research, up to 64% of mTBI patients have ongoing symptoms for months, or indefinitely, post injury. If concussion sufferers find proper care earlier, the numbers would be much smaller.
The doctor has created a professional organization, Concussion Professionals, for providers who treat concussion. For more information, visit http://www.concussionprofessionals.com.
