New analysis of Google search volume data and Reddit data reveals which Super Bowl LIX finalist is most hated in each state

A new study has revealed which Super Bowl LIX finalist is the most hated in every state across America.
In Michigan, Lions fans have had several reasons for bad blood with both the Chiefs and the Eagles over the years, but it was the Kansas City Chiefs that came out as most hated in the Great Lakes State.
The research from FlashPicks, a betting picks, parlays, predictions, and news brand, aims to find which team has received the most hate during the 2024-25 NFL season.
To do so, they analyzed Google search volume data over the course of the 2024-25 NFL season in all 50 states, plus Washington DC.
The study also factored in Reddit data by calculating how many hateful posts have been made about each Super Bowl LIX finalist during this season on each of the 32 NFL teams’ official Reddit fan forums.
While it was a close contest, the results showed that the US hates the Chiefs the most, with 26 out of 50 states, plus Washington DC, being more hateful towards the Kansas City team.
However, this did include some of the most populated states in the US, with all of Texas, California, New York, Florida, and Ohio showing more hate to the Chiefs than the Eagles during this NFL season.
The study found that, typically, states that have at least one NFL team tended to hate the Chiefs more than the Eagles. In fact, just three states that play host to an NFL team hated the Eagles most, that being Wisconsin, Tennessee, and unsurprisingly, Missouri.
Michigan joined 25 other states, plus Washington DC, in hating the Chiefs more than the Eagles this NFL season.
The Detroit Lions had been the favorites to face the Chiefs this February, but were dispatched in the playoffs by the Washington Commanders, which were then in turn eliminated by the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Google search volume data showed that there have been 330 hateful searches related to the Chiefs in the state of Michigan during this NFL season alone, which equates to 0.109% of the 301,000 searches for the Chiefs in the state. Some of the hateful search terms included ‘losers’, ‘cheats’, and ‘refs’.
That’s compared to just 60 hateful searches related to the Eagles in the state of Michigan this NFL season, which equated to just 0.054% of the 110,000 Eagles searches in Michigan.
Over on the Lions Reddit fan forum, both the Chiefs and the Eagles received a fair share of hate from Lions fans, but it was actually the Eagles that were most hated on that platform.
The Eagles have received 32 hateful posts on the Lions Reddit forum this season, compared to just 25 hateful posts about the Chiefs. Some of the hateful comments included words like ‘destroy’, ‘corrupt’, ‘hate’, and ‘refs’.
The study determined that the Google search volume data indicated a greater disparity in hate between the Chiefs and the Eagles, although the Reddit data shows that there will be plenty of people in Michigan who want to see the Eagles lose this Super Bowl Sunday.
The Lions have a decent record against both Super Bowl LIX finalists winning three of its last five games against the Chiefs, including the most recent meeting in 2023.
Likewise, the Lions have three of the last five against the Eagles, but have not tasted victory against the Philadelphia team since 2019.

All Google search data was collected from Google Ads Keyword Planner and relevant from September 2024 to December 2024.

The search data was collected from all 50 states, plus Washington DC, and considered the following search terms; [TEAM NAME], [TEAM NAME losers], [TEAM NAME refs], [TEAM NAME cheats].

All Reddit data was collected from the official Reddit fan forum of each of the 32 teams.

The Reddit data considered posts that contained any of the following terms when talking about the Kansas City Chiefs or the Philadelphia Eagles; [Cheat], [Corrupt], [Destroy], [F*ck], [Hate], [Refs], [Tamper].
