Newman Catholic rallies to top Columbus Catholic in WIAA Division 4 volleyball regional final

WAUSAU – For the fourth-straight season, the Marshfield Columbus Catholic volleyball team saw its season end at Wausau Newman Catholic in the WIAA playoffs.

Columbus won two of the first three sets but couldn’t hold on and dropped a 3-2 decision to Newman in a Division 4 regional final Saturday night at Newman Catholic High School.

The Cardinals won 22-25, 25-19, 19-25, 25-22, 15-5, to advance to the D-4 sectional semifinal Thursday against Prentice at Athens. Tigerton and Wausaukee play in the other sectional semifinal, with the winners meeting Oct. 27 at Bowler for a spot in the state tournament.

Maren Seefluth had 16 kills and 25 digs, Brooke Neider had 47 assists and 20 digs, and Annie Baierl had 28 digs and three service aces to lead Columbus Catholic.

Kate Turchi added 15 kills and three aces, and Dorci Walker had 12 kills for the Dons.
