Paige Guld led team with 31 Set Assists
A back and forth five set match seeing both teams struggle keeping a consistent momentum. The 1st set we came out flat and Assumption quickly took advantage of that as they took charge of that first set winning 25-18. The 2nd and 3rd set were all Newman once we found out flow and were able to play with some focus and intensity. They were in a zone set three and handed Assumption a 25-11 loss. The 4th set brought the biggest challenge for Newman. We were up multiple times by as much as five but Assumption kept clawing back with their scrappy defense and crushing balls for kills while we were unable to terminate and finish the match. Credit to Assumption for their relentless pursuit and forcing the 5th set. Once the 5th set started it was evident that Newman had found their groove again. They went up quickly behind the steady serves of Paige Guld as she was on her way to match high of 7 aces. We were up 11 to 1 when Assumption took its 2nd timeout but it didn’t matter Newman was in a zone and ended the set 15-4 in dominant manner.
